At Fine Art Framing we employ a considered, academic approach when designing bespoke frames. Our aim is to ensure that your picture is complemented appropriately by a frame that reinforces the historical context in which the work itself would have been made. Although a work of art in its own right, a strong frame should always promote the artwork which it surrounds and never detract or overshadow it. This is achieved through a careful balance between style and context, primarily informed by our years of expertise and knowledge of the wide variation of framing styles developed throughout history of Western art.

Our bespoke frames all incorporate techniques first introduced by craftsman in the 15th century in Northern Europe and Italy. We prepare our gesso, bole and patina by hand and have extensive experience in the design and carving of ornamentation and pattern work. Gilding and the conservation of original gold-work is all maintained in accordance with traditional practices.

We are capable practitioners on any scale whether it be monumental or minute. Large-scale projects for institutions or private collections are treated with the same attention to detail and care as the conservation of miniature frames and small-scale private bespoke projects.

Whether you are a curator, collector, dealer or designer we have a wealth of experience behind us.
